WhyMobile is a Singapore electronics retailer established in 2004, holding an IMDA telecommunications dealer licence. As one of Singapore's longest-running independent mobile phone retailers, WhyMobile is known for transparent and competitive pricing on new and refurbished mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices. All refurbished products undergo rigorous testing and refurbishment to meet WhyMobile's quality standards. WhyMobile also offers device repair and trade-in services at its retail store at Far East Plaza, near Orchard Road.
WhyMobile was registered in April 2004, launching with a simple static website that was refreshed just two months later based on early customer feedback. That same year we opened our first retail point — a push cart in front of Plaza Singapura — followed in 2005 by a second push cart under Golden Shoe Carpark near Raffles Place MRT, and a kiosk along Geylang. In October 2005 we consolidated into a permanent physical store at Far East Plaza, where WhyMobile remains today.
By 2008 WhyMobile had become a recognised name in Singapore's online mobile phone retail scene. We partnered closely with HardwareZone, Singapore's largest tech website and online community, to provide real-time pricelist updates to its members — putting WhyMobile's prices in front of Singapore's most engaged tech-buying audience. That same year we rebuilt our website to support online ordering and a wider product range, and were ranked in the Top 10 of Experian Hitwise's Mobile Phone and Gadgets category in Singapore — a ranking WhyMobile held consistently from 2008 through late 2010.
We set up a Facebook group in February 2009 to build a community around our customers, replacing it in April 2012 with our current Facebook business page. As smartphone adoption grew, we launched a mobile-friendly site in September 2011 to serve the rising number of customers browsing on early iPhone and Android devices, and in March 2014 we expanded beyond retail to offer device repair services.
Most recently, in November 2020 we revamped the website again to accept PayNow/SGQR payment, in step with Singapore's Smart Nation initiative — continuing over two decades of adapting to how Singaporeans shop for and pay for their devices.
